Seasonal Waxing in the Bay Area: When to Book Your Wax Throughout the Year
One of the best things about living in the Bay Area is that there’s always somewhere to go. Winter weekends can mean Tahoe, spring brings school breaks and warm-weather trips, and summer might have you heading over the hill to Santa Cruz one weekend and on a flight to Hawaii the next.
Add weddings, holidays, date nights, and long weekends, and suddenly the waxing appointment you meant to schedule is competing with everyone else's.
At Revel Wax in Santa Clara, we recommend planning when you're waxing for a trip or special occasion—particularly during the times of year when appointment calendars naturally get busier.
Winter: Tahoe Weekends & Après-Ski Plans
Winter in Northern California doesn't necessarily mean putting away the swimsuit.
A weekend in Lake Tahoe might include skiing and snowboarding during the day followed by the hot tub, spa, or heated pool back at the hotel or cabin.
If you know you have a Tahoe trip coming up, schedule your Brazilian, bikini, underarm, or leg wax before you leave rather than trying to squeeze it in at the last minute.
One thing to consider: we recommend avoiding hot tubs and excessive heat immediately after waxing. If that's part of your Tahoe itinerary, don't schedule your wax right before you get in the car. Give your skin some time first.
Valentine's Day
February brings Valentine's Day, date nights, and weekend getaways, which can make it a particularly popular time for Brazilian and bikini waxing.
If you're waxing for Valentine's Day, give yourself enough time between your appointment and your plans for any temporary post-wax redness or sensitivity to settle.
First wax ever? We'd especially avoid making the day of a big date or special occasion your first appointment. Everyone's skin responds a little differently, and there's no reason to add that variable to an already important day.
Spring Break in the South Bay
Spring break doesn't happen on one universal week around here.
For 2027, for example, Santa Clara University has spring recess March 22–29, while San José State University's spring recess runs March 29–April 2.
That creates several weeks when South Bay students, families, and college-age clients may be traveling.
If spring break means Cabo, Hawaii, Palm Springs, San Diego, or another warm destination, plan your waxing appointment when you plan the trip—not the night before you're supposed to leave.
You can check the current academic calendars directly through Santa Clara University and San José State University when you're planning ahead.
Summer: Santa Cruz, Capitola & California Weekends
Summer is when being in the South Bay really pays off.
You can decide in the morning that you want a beach day and be heading toward Santa Cruz before lunch. Santa Cruz County alone has 29 miles of coastline, with beaches and parks stretching from places like Capitola and Aptos to spots farther up the coast.
Visit Santa Cruz County is also a great resource for planning beach days, surfing, the Boardwalk, and other summer activities.
Then there are weekend trips to Monterey, Carmel, Napa, Sonoma and Lake Tahoe, plus bigger summer vacations.
Instead of scheduling a wax around every individual beach day, summer is an especially good time to establish a regular waxing schedule. For many clients, appointments approximately every four to six weeks work well, although your ideal timing depends on your individual hair growth.
Wedding Season, Bachelorette Trips & Special Events
California's long stretch of beautiful weather also means a long wedding and event season.
If you're attending a wedding, heading to a bachelorette weekend or planning a milestone birthday trip, think about what you're wearing when you choose your services.
A strapless dress might have you thinking about underarms. A swimsuit weekend may mean Brazilian or bikini waxing. Shorter dresses and skirts might make you want to add legs.
You don't necessarily need to wax everything—just choose the services that make sense for your plans.
Fall: Keep Your Routine Going
Once swimsuit season winds down, it's tempting to stop waxing until the next vacation.
But if you prefer waxing to shaving, there's no reason to make it seasonal. Staying on your regular schedule means you won't suddenly realize you need to grow out several weeks of shaving when a warm-weather trip pops up.
Fall is also a nice window to get back into your routine before the end-of-year calendar gets packed.
Thanksgiving Through New Year's
The stretch from Thanksgiving through New Year's can be one of the hardest times of year to find last-minute beauty appointments.
There are family gatherings, Christmas and Hanukkah celebrations, work parties, travel, photos, New Year's Eve, and winter vacations all packed into a matter of weeks.
This is one time we'd strongly recommend reserving your appointment as soon as you know your plans—especially if you need an evening or weekend appointment.
Long Weekends Can Sneak Up on You, Too
It's not just the major holidays.
Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day weekends often turn into mini vacations around Northern California. A three-day weekend might mean camping, wine country, a beach house, Tahoe, or a quick flight somewhere warmer.
If you're already a regular Revel client, rebooking before you leave your appointment is the easiest way to make sure you're covered. Then you're not checking for an opening three days before everyone leaves town.
Waxing for a Trip? Think About Timing
If you're waxing specifically for a vacation or event, don't think only about getting the hair removed. Think about what you'll be doing afterward.
Swimming, hot tubs, intense workouts, sun exposure, and friction aren't ideal immediately after a fresh wax. Scheduling with a little breathing room gives your skin time to settle before the fun starts.
And if you've been shaving, remember that we need enough hair to wax. Aim for approximately ¼ inch of growth, which is usually around two weeks without shaving.
