Four Ways to Make Your Brazilian Wax Less Painful
Let's talk about the question everyone asks before a Brazilian wax: How much is it going to hurt?
Here's the thing: Brazilian waxing doesn't have to be as intimidating as you think. While everyone's pain tolerance is different, a little preparation can make a big difference in your experience.
At Revel Wax in Santa Clara, I'm all about making your Brazilian wax as quick, comfortable, and thorough as possible. And there are a few simple things you can do to help!
1. Hydrate & Moisturize (But Skip the Lotion on Wax Day!)
Healthy, hydrated skin is happy skin, especially when it comes to waxing.
In the days leading up to your appointment, drink plenty of water and keep your skin moisturized. Well-moisturized skin is generally more supple, which can help make the waxing process more comfortable.
My tip: Moisturize regularly between appointments, but arrive with clean, dry skin and no lotion, oils, or creams on the day of your wax. We want the wax to grip your hair, not your skincare products!
2. Save the Caffeine for After Your Appointment
Love your morning coffee? You might want to wait until after your wax.
Some people find that caffeine makes them feel more jittery or sensitive, which isn't exactly ideal when you're about to get a Brazilian.
While there's limited scientific evidence that caffeine directly increases waxing pain, skipping that extra espresso beforehand might help you feel a little more relaxed.
My tip: If you're sensitive to caffeine, try scheduling your coffee date for after your waxing appointment. Consider it your post-wax treat!
3. Time Your Wax Around Your Menstrual Cycle
Yes, when you schedule your Brazilian wax can make a difference!
Hormonal changes throughout your menstrual cycle can affect how sensitive your skin and body feel. Some people notice more tenderness right before or during their period.
If you're particularly sensitive to waxing, try booking around the middle of your menstrual cycle, when you may feel more comfortable.
My tip: Avoid scheduling during your period if you tend to feel extra sensitive. But if your appointment falls during that time, no worries! You can absolutely still get a Brazilian wax while menstruating. Just wear a fresh tampon or menstrual cup.
4. Stay Consistent: Wax Every 4–6 Weeks
This might be my favorite tip because consistency really is key!
When you shave between appointments or wait too long to come back, you can end up with hair at different stages of growth. That can make it harder to achieve the smooth, consistent results you're looking for.
Regular waxing helps you maintain a more predictable hair growth cycle, and many clients find their appointments become easier and more comfortable over time.
My tip: Aim for a Brazilian wax every 4–6 weeks, depending on your individual hair growth. And resist the urge to shave between visits!
The Bottom Line: A Better Brazilian Starts With the Right Waxer
